Students age 3 years old to 8th grade are welcome to attend GSLC Sunday School. There are classes for pre-schoolers during worship following the Children's Sermon at both 8:15 and 10:45 services. All other classes meet 9:30-10:30 am. We welcome you to Sunday School and worship!
Sunday School begins in the fall with Rally Day (September 10, 2006) at 9:30 am in the Sanctuary. All families are invited.
Cynthia McLaren is the Education Coordinator at GSLC, phone 289-1748, email gsceducation@goodshepherdchurch.net.
This year we are asking all families, members and non-members, to fill out a registration form. There is no registration fee.
GSLC's Sunday School staff is comprised solely of volunteers from the congregation. Our congregation is very fortunate to have a wonderful staff of volunteers to work with our youth. Our classes are team taught by 2-3 people so various schedules can be accommodated. Please keep these people in your prayers. Thank you.
Seventh grade Sunday School begins each year with two questions – Who is a minister and what do they do? Over the years, the answers have been the same, "Our pastors, because they preach." Our class goes on to learn that everyone is a minister who serves and assists others. As a part of the serving and assisting program the students teach Sunday School classes.
This fall we will teach the Second Grade classes. Several of the students will act out the Bible lesson with costumes, then another student will accompany us on the piano for several songs. Another group will lead the Second Grade in an object lesson which features the Ten Commandments and the last group will present two crafts. This is quite an undertaking for folks who are 12-13 years old.
We create and mail monthly greeting cards to 17 senior members and shut-ins of our congregation. Many times those wonderful people reciprocate with notes of appreciation.
We will host a teaching Christmas party which will feature the Preschool classes. During Lent we present the Stations of the Cross where students are in costumes and act out the Crucifixion. Finally, we have hosted an end of the year teaching program for the entire Sunday School, featuring Pentecost. Our class hour is divided equally between Bible study and research/crafts.
As teachers, Judy and I appreciate the attendance of the students at Sunday School. When students have sporadic attendance they lose the momentum of the class. Thanks, parents, for working with us.
Please greet these young ministers. Besides teaching, you will see them as greeters, working with the Altar Guild after communion, babysitting in the Nursery, acolyting, or acting as crucifer.
