Finance Committee Meeting Report

Meeting Date:  June 12, 2006

Present:  Grant Christensen, Michele Saack, Joleen Mainz, Doug Tollefson and Jen Woodford

General Agenda Items:

1.      Review Contracts – Seeds of Wisdom and Home School Group

  • Seeds of Wisdom – it has been two years since any increase has been made.  We are going to increase their rent to $450 (from $300) and let them know that we are going to enforce the agreement – making sure they use the rooms they have contracted for and also that they do their own basic janitorial duties in their classrooms.
  • Home School Group – they have requested Wednesdays.  Doug is going to ask them if they can pick another day, as Wednesdays is a busy day for congregational activities at Church.

2.      Review May Financial Statement

  • Net income in May of $1,391.
  • Deficit decreased to $10,817 for the year.

3.      Review Tithing for a Time Program and make future plans

  • Tithing for a Time program was a success.  During the seven-week program, general fund gifts totaled $56,450.
  • Five households signed up for Simply Giving.
  • Discussion about creating a weekly update on general fund giving that automatically goes into the Happynings.
  • Committee discussed ideas from Abby Jones – Adopt-A-Bill program and/or Adopt-A-Sunday memorial/honorarium program.  Agreed to maybe do one “fund drive” per quarter.  The committee decided to wait until Pastor Dave has settled in to make plans for another fund drive, and also for long term stewardship efforts.

4.      Other items

  • Jen to do final update on Tithing for a Time in Happynings and Bulletins, and also ask Mike to put a self-addressed church envelope into the Happynings for people to send in their gifts when they are gone in the summer.

                                                                                                                                Date:   Aug 2006  Time: 5:30 p.m.

General Agenda Items

1)      New Hymnals – Worship Committee decided to purchase 300 new “Evangelical Lutheran Worship” hymnals by October 2, 2006.  This was approved by Council at the April Council Meeting.  In early August, George & Cynthia will present a poster board in the narthex, displaying the new hymnal.  Cynthia will order envelopes for the congregation to buy a hymnal as a gift to the church or as a memorial.  More info to follow on this in the fall.

2)      Gluten-Free Wafers/Bread – George reviewed an email forwarded to him regarding gluten-free wafers.  After discussion, decided offering this would require additional communion assistants & special handling by alter guilds.  Pastor Tom noted an individual not able to take regular bread/wafers was theologically ok.
