CHURCH IN SOCIETY

FEBUARY 14, 2005

Present:  Paul Willemssen, Betty Lund, Jen Woodford, Judy Larson, Val Jorgensen

  1. Ronald McDonald House Valentine update:  A BIG WAHOO to Paul and his wife for delivering the Valentine supplies collected for this worthy cause.
  2. Change for Change:  we revised our list of giving for this project for the 2005-06 .
  3. IHN:  Our next host dates will be the week of March 27.
  4. Cookbook update:  to date we have about 220 recipes and have decided to allow folks from outside the church to enter some of their recipes  and also allow one more week for folks to turn theirs in.  At the last cookbook meeting on Wed,  Feb 16 we decided on who would keep up the duties while Paul and Marge are on vacation.
  5. Habitat Build:  I checked with Becky and we can pick the days we would like to help on a build and let her know and go accordingly with sign ups and advertisement.  Becky thought that April or May might be good months as last summer was sort of a slim on sign ups.  Will discuss at the next meeting.
  6. Upcoming activities:  Cookies for Hope Lodge- we assume we will have the month of June again and will need people to provide cookies as well as drivers to get them there.

Tsunami Relief: in the Happynings and bulletin inserts

Homelessness in Rochester:  Chuck Akre  was checking on this group that meets

Elsewhere and he was not here for the committee meeting so we tabled until next

            Time.

Food Share: A big push for the month of March to collect food for Channel One.

Long Range Planning Committee Report

General Agenda Items (discussion points, action items, follow-up, etc.)

1)  The committee reviewed a map of Rochester that shows areas of residential development and population growth.  Each committee member received a copy of Olmsted county census data for 2000. We will take a look at this data and its correlation with possible long range goals.

2)  The idea of taking a census of the congregation was discussed.  The information gathered from a census could prove to be useful to assist the LRP committee in making decisions.

3) Bruce brought in the book Reclaiming the “L” Word, by Kelly Fryer.  He thought it would be a good book for each of the members of the committee to read.
