REPORT OF PASTOR CHRIS BREKKE TO THE CHURCH COUNCIL

November 15, 2004

I.                     PASTORAL ACTS. In October there were 3 baptisms (Sarah Augeson, Conor Cozik, Madison Thompson), no weddings, and 1 funeral (Arlette Brekke).  Known hospitalized: Gary Lipp and Guy Havelick.  Visits/appointments with members or prospects: 45.  I took days 20 and 21 of my 2004 vacation.

II.                   GSC EVENTS.  Lots of strong events dotted our October including: a start to a “prayer shawl” ministry, first coffeehouse of the season, the CROP Walk, hosting IHN, 10th Grade Retreat, Friendship Sunday, Confirmation Banquet and Rite, good adult ed classes, “Make a Difference” rakers, and Reformation Day.

Yet to come in November: Pot-luck and congregational meeting (21st), Thanksgiving Eve worship (24th), Advent Fest and chili supper (28th).

III.         SMOLDERING?  Churches have matters to decide on and work through.  The new pipe organ was one such.  Grand as it is, a few folks still question the process and the funding.  We will work to summarize and clarify, and help everyone move along.  Thanks for peace-making!

IV.                SUGGESTION BOX.  These 2 items were passed along recently:

                  a. “Regarding the experimental liturgy: the music people worked very hard to polish the presentation and I don’t mean to criticize them, but I didn’t enjoy the music and would prefer that we go back to my favorite: Haugen service, or anything else familiar.”

                  b. “How about a cork board next to the office door so we don’t need to post notices on the wall!”

V.                              LOOSE ENDS…(may be covered elsewhere)

a.       We could use more folding chairs.  Let’s find a money source to order another 20 or so.  ?

b.       “Camperships” help get youth to Bible Camp.  $50 could be offered in 2005?  (up from $45 in recent years.)    ?

c.       We have an offer of a safe; 2’ cube on rollers; that we could use for fire safety of documents.  (Doyle Garrett)

d.       We have 15 households joining GSC November 21!  Make them welcome.
