Present: Sheila Bennett, Michele Saack, Paul Evers, Tim Olson, Jen Woodford, Erik Schlicht, Cynthia McLaren, Scott Kruse, Lori Bates, Pastor Dave Berg, Karin Neuvirth, Frank Fawcett, Steve Howe, and Donna Caflisch.
The meeting was brought to order by President Jen Woodford. Pastor Dave led the devotions and chapter six of the book “Reclaiming the L Word” was discussed..
Motion to approve the agenda was made by Sheila Bennett and seconded by Scott Kruse. Motion carried. MMS by Sheila Bennett/ Scott Kruse to approve the October minutes after correcting that Jen Woodford brought up the financial situation for Good Earth Village rather than Paul Evers. Motion carried.
Michele Saack presented the financial report. Expenses exceeded income by $3647, due to less income in October compared to previous years.
Tim Olson gave an update on Consecration Sunday. Giving pledges were up nearly 30% over this year and twelve more cards have been received since those totals were added. Tim will give council a projection for 2008 at the December meeting. The finance committee is looking into having only one line on the donation envelopes in 2009 and have GSC determine the distribution of funds to the other categories. This makes it less confusing and would put GSC in line with other churches. Also, budget worksheets have not been received from all the committees so they need to have them before the December 10 finance committee meeting to enable review and discussion in order to prepare the budget in time for the GSC Annual meeting on January 27, 2008. It was also brought up that the dedicated Other Relief fund has a balance of about $5000 that normally is spent down by the end of the year so ideas should be brought up that are appropriate for use of those funds. Lori Bates inquired whether the funds could be used to help an individual that has been paralyzed in an accident but after discussion it was decided that it would not be appropriate to use this fund for that situation and there are other ways GSC does help those individuals that have financial problems caused by accidents. Jen Woodford will help Lori Bates with a project to get assistance for the individual involved in this accident.
Pastor Dave stated that the Consecration Sunday preparation had kept him very busy. PD and Jen mentioned that we will be seeing the effects of Consecration Sunday for quite a few years down the road and that it is not just in money but also in congregation participation. Also, PD met with Sandy Poenitsch and she is working on the logo design for GSC.
Cynthia McLaren noted that PD, Rita Howe, and her have been working hard on the Milestone Ministry and there will be an article in the December Happyings to help GSC members to learn more about the Milestone Ministry.
Jen Woodford also gave the council an FYI that Diane Carr is designing graphics for a sign that will direct visitors to the back door of GSC during the day so they don’t just go to the locked front door and leave.
Also, it was noted that the Campus Ministry and Camping Ministry had lost their funding so we should think about what can be done to help these two worthwhile organizations.
The December meeting will be on December 17 and it was brought up that maybe someone would volunteer to bring some treats.
Thank you cards were written out for the following youth that provided music at the November 16 service at GSC: Dan Johnson, Erik Mainz, Sam Fiek, Emily Howe, Tyler Hansen, and Miles Neuvirth.
MMS to adjourn the meeting was made by Sheila Bennett/ Scott Kruse and motion carried. The closing prayers were led by Pastor Dave.
Respectfully submitted,
