Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Council Meeting Minutes - April 24, 2006

 

 

Present: Val Jorgenson, George Price, Pastor Tom Hanson, Tina Livingston, Doug Tollefson, Erik Schlicht, Paul Evers, Jen Woodford, Gayle Olsen, Tim Olson, Karin Neuvirth, Steve Howe, Mark Hannan, Cynthia McLaren

 

  1. The meeting was called to order by Doug Tollefson.

 

  1. Devotions were led by Tim Olson.

 

  1. MMS to adopted agenda (George/Paul). Motion carried.

 

  1. MMS to approve February and March meeting minutes (Gayle/Val). Motion carried.

 

  1. Staff Reports (as written)

 

Pastor's discussed items from his report. Andi Fyffe with Rainbow School wanted to hold a fund raiser after worship some Sunday in May. Concern was raised about this conflicting with "Tithing for a Time" so this was tabled to be brought back in September.

 

In regards to item 2 from Pastor Hanson's report he is asking for a proposal to move forward with church council reorganization and have the Executive committee bring back to council in July, this may require some bylaw changes. MMS to approve that Executive Committee with a sub-committee bring final recommendation to the July council meeting (Doug/Karin). Motion carried.

 

  1. Committee Reports accepted as written.

 

  1. Financial Report for March - it was highlighted that expenses have remained the same but income has not. The committee has reviewed the expenses but significant cuts can not be made. Other committees are reminded to spend only as necessary.

 

  1. Old Business
    1. Renew & Rejoice Update

                                                               i.            Tithing for a Time - This will be charted weekly. Simply Giving is being promoted with this. This probably won't be the last program in the fall there may be some thing else. Finance also reports that member quarterly statements will be done soon.

 

                                                             ii.            Every Member is Important - Evangelism committee will meet with Pastor and Paul Evers to review the goal of this program.

 

 

    1. Safe Haven policy - Personnel has looked into getting background checks done but because there is a cost nothing has been done yet. It is estimated there are 50 Sunday School teachers and 50 additional volunteers who work with youth. There are several levels of background checks available costing a minimum of $5 each but probably $11 each. Personnel will come back with a policy next month.

 

  1. Thank Yous were done to Bruce Larson for directing Good Friday choir and Susan Darbo for being Nursery Coordinator.

 

 

 

  1. New Business
    1. New Hymnals – MMS to approve that Worship Committee purchase 250-300 hymnals by October 2, 2006 (George/Paul). Motion carried.

 

    1. Visioning Plan Update - This was tabled until next meeting.

 

    1. Building use requests

                                                               i.            Rochester Pipe and Drums – MMS to accept change of request to move to sanctuary when it is cold. Approval was given to application and use of space, not church equipment (Jen/Karin). Motion carried.

 

                                                             ii.            Cross Winds Church Weekly Bible Study – MMS to approve Women's Bible Study group to use space (Gayle/Jen). Motion carried.

 

                                                            iii.            Narcotics Anonymous - MMS to disapprove building use request (Paul/Karin). Motion carried

 

  1. MMS to adjourn (Jen/Paul). Motion carried.
