Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Council Meeting-February 2006

 

 

1.      The meeting was called to order by Doug Tollefson.

2.      Devotions were lead by Paul Evers.

3.      The agenda was accepted.  George Price 1st, Paul Evers second motion to accept.

4.      The January minutes were accepted; George Price 1st, Jen Woodford 2nd.

5.      Beth Krolac attended to give us an update on the call committee.  They are going forth with the applicant interviews soon.     

6.      Michelle Schlicht asked the Erik Schlicht give an update on what the Small Group committee is doing.

a.       They are getting a list of possible small group ideas

b.      They would like any suggestions called into the church office.

7.      Mark Hannan-youth update

NEW BUSINESS

8.      The financial deficit was discussed.

a.       Based on our current financial situation a motion to change the amount of ELCA giving each month from 10 percent of budgeted money to 10 percent of actual revenue each month.  The motion was passed, Jen Woodford 1st, Paul Evers 2nd.  Motion carried.

b.      A second motion was discussed; A motion that council recommends that for the next three months the entire mortgage be paid out of the building fund with no subsidy from the general fund and that the council will review after three months.  Motion was carried; Jen Woodford 1st, Karen Neuvirth 2nd. 

9.      Stewardship was discussed and stewardship weekend was talked about. 

a.       Two ideas were thrown around.  First, the Simply Giving program through Thriven Financial who picks up the transaction tab.

b.      Secondly, to change stewardship to be year round instead of one weekend out of the whole year.

10.  The Library committee asked council to approve a book fundraiser for the library so they can get more books.  Motion to approve the fundraiser was approved; Doug Tollefson 1st, Paul Evers 2nd.

11.  Council has an open position for Secretary.  Any suggestions are requested.  No recommendations at this time.  People will bring ideas to the next meeting.

12.  We will have a new youth from the youth committee join starting next time?  The youth rep will be Justin Webber.

13.  The audit report found that we are paying taxes at items purchased at Sam’s Club.  Recommended we get a Sam’s Card that is tax-exempt.
