THE CHALLENGE

When Good Shepherd Lutheran Church expanded its’ sanctuary to accommodate our growing congregation, little was done to complement the exterior of the building. Our larger building is now out of scale to the pre-existing landscaping, much of which requires high maintenance to keep it looking good.

To address this challenge, we have set the following goals:

               Install new signage

Create a more park-like feel to the grounds, reduce grassy areas that require time-intensive mowing by incorporating mulched areas of low maintenance trees and shrubs that will not only beautify our grounds but provide some ecological benefit.

Screen unsightly areas and work with our neighbors to provide them some privacy.

   Create inviting entrance gardens

Remove dead/diseased trees, buckthorn/non-native invasive and undesirable undergrowth on the west side of the property.

Tie the amphitheatre to the rest of the property with similar plantings of low-maintenance perennials; address handicap accessibility to the amphitheatre if possible.

Maintain all phases of the project and   fill out the plantings to create beautiful spaces for socializing or contemplation.

PHASE ONE – COMPLETED!

The courtyard near the south  entrance features plantings of low-maintenance trees, shrubs and perennials, a brick patio, gazebo, and brick edging.

PHASE TWO – COMPLETED!

Screened residential areas on the southwest corner and the north lot line with mixed plantings of spruce and pine.

NEXT UP:

PHASE THREE:

Clear away the dying elm on the edge of the south parking lot; clean up the brushy areas on the west side of the property.

PHASE FOUR:

New signage for Good Shepherd Church that would be located nearer to the driveway and the street.

PHASE FIVE:

Screen utility boxes and provide a more inviting entrance on the north side of

the building.

PHASE SIX:

Shrubs or perennials around the perimeter of the amphitheatre stage, allowing for future handicap accessibility.
