Vision Team FAQ:

JUST WHAT EXACTLY IS A CONGREGATIONAL MISSION STATEMENT ANYWAY?

The Vision Team will be crafting a statement of Mission, Vision and a list of our congregations Core Values.  Here is how we understand a Mission statement. A mission statement is a brief and clear articulation of a group’s purpose, designed to help people remain focused.  In our case it is a broad general statement about who we wish to reach and what we as a congregation hope to accomplish.  It is a “big picture” statement.

The mission of every Christian church is found throughout scripture, but specifically in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20)  In brief, our mission is the grand purpose for which our ministry exists.

For Christians and Christian Ministries, the beauty of mission is that God has already defined it.  As disciples of Christ, our life mission is to enable as many people as possible to know, love and serve God with their whole being: hearts, souls, minds and strength.

In weeks to come, we will define  “Vision Statement” and “Core Values List.”  Don’t forget to keep the congregation in prayer as we seek to align ourselves with the work that God would have us do.  Also remember to save the date for our congregational vision dinners on September 30 at 5pm and October 14 at 5pm

                        Rainbow School News

September 2007

Rainbow School is a Christian preschool where children develop skills for a life of faith and learning. We are a ministry of the Mount Olive, Good Shepherd, Our Savior’s and Zumbro Lutheran congregations, and are located in the Zumbro Lutheran building at 624 3rd Ave. SW.

WE HAVE OPENINGS!

Our morning classes are full, with waiting lists.  We still have a few openings in our afternoon class on Tuesdays and Thursdays—call 261-0586 for more information on registering.

SCIENCE EXPLORATION

We have added some new spaces for science exploration at Rainbow School, both indoors and out!  Tina Mohn and Pastor Carol are working on setting up a children’s garden, where we hope to plant some bulbs this fall—thank you!  Indoors, Tina, Kim and Ember have set up a FUN center with several ever-changing learning stations, a terrarium, nature games, magnifying glasses, prisms, and other science equipment that will help us discover and learn more about the wonderful world around us.

OUR READING CORNER

Another new addition is our cozy-up-and-read corner, with curtains on all sides and some soft pillows so we can really settle in with our books.  Thanks to Ember Houghton for sewing our fabulous gauzy rainbow curtains…this is a great addition to Rainbow School’s learning environment!

A NEW BABY!

Congratulations to Mara and Brent Danz on the birth of their baby, Audrey Lucia, on August 13!  "Miss Mara" will be taking the month of September to enjoy being with her daughter full time, and Ember Houghton will be her substitute teacher.

WE NEED YOU!

Do you love to read?  We are looking for volunteers from our member congregations to come to our classroom and read to small groups of children.  Hours and frequency are flexible, and teachers will provide guidance and supervision so you can enjoy your reading time with the children.  Call Beth at 261-0586 if you are interested in sharing your love of reading with our little ones…or if you have any other skills you would like to share.
