If your car is anything like mine it could
use a good old fashioned hand wash. Here
are some steps to help identify if your car needs a wash:
Come to our Spring
Car Wash this Sunday morning (8-12) here at Good Shepherd and need a car wash
no more. We’ll wash your car and clean
on the inside. Talk with Mark if you
have any questions or if you are a student or adult who would like to
volunteer.

Celebrate the end of the
Congregational Conversation and the beginning of the Visioning Team
The
Congregational Conversation which began on February 20 came to a
close two months later on Thursday, April 19. Over 200 people
representing about 40 percent of member households participated. We had
our most senior members as well as children as young as 4 participating.
A special thank you goes to Rita Howe who coordinated this huge effort and
shepherded it for the past several months. Through it all we took time to
share our stories and backgrounds as well as time to dream of our ministry
together here at
What
is a visioning team? Glad you asked! During the conversations
everyone was asked the following question, “What would you attempt to do with
regard to our ministry at Good Shepherd if you knew that you could not
fail?” As we talked about this question, we began to imagine the
possibilities of our life together as a congregation. The task of the
vision team will be to pray, study, lead congregational gatherings, listen,
revisit the congregational conversations and ultimately help discern the
mission, vision and core values for our congregation. Jesus told his
disciples to “Follow me.” This team will do the hard work of study,
prayer, discussing, listening and helping us to understand where Jesus is
leading us and inspire us to go there.
Between
now and then, I look forward to our celebration on May 20! I’ll see you
there.

Great Big Thanks!!!
A Great big thanks goes out to everyone who made our Year-End Confirmation Retreat such a success. Thanks to all the parents who donated their time, skills, food, gas to get us there and keep us well fed. Thanks to all the students who came with open minds and were incredibly fun (as always). Thanks times 10 for the adults and high school students who drove and stayed up at the state park as leaders. And thanks times infinity to Jeff Brown! Without his thoughtful planning and leadership this retreat could never have happened.
30 Hour Famine
Congrats
to the students who went 30 hours without food and raised over $750 to help
fight poverty and hunger world-wide.
Along with matching donations from various organizations the $750 we
raised will be worth five times as much.
That’s $3,750 – enough to feed ten children for an entire year. Also thanks to the adults who helped make the
Famine possible and a success: Erik & Michelle Schlick, McHaley Haeflinger,
Randy Sutter, and Beth Krolak.

Currently we have 2
handchimes groups, Celebration and Jubilation, which add
musical praise to worship services. Both groups want to expand
their musical praise by adding a 3 octave set of handbells.
Handbells will add greatly to the variety of worship music that can be
done. To support the purchase of handbells, Celebration and
Jubilation handchimers will be taking orders for personalized cake pans and
other unique baking items at the following times in the Narthex. Wed.,
May 9 and May 16 from 5-7pm, Sat. May 12 and May 19 from 5-7pm and Sun. May 13
and May 20 from 8am-noon. These items make great gifts and although they
won't be ready in time for Mother's Day we're sure Moms wouldn't mind an I. O.
U. note that says her very own personalized pan is on it's way.
Another great (and tasty) way to support the handbells fund drive
is to stop for a sample of Butterbraids during the same times listed
above. These fruit filled pastries make wonderful breakfast or brunch
treats for special occasions and are really easy to prepare. So stop by for
a sample and then order your favorite flavor. Butterbraids will be
delivered to church on Thursday, May 31 and will need to be picked up that
day. If you have questions or want to place an order but won't be around
on the above dates, please contact Becky Bruinsma, 282-0317 or
bruie1229@magnaspeed.net.
We are currently seeking an individual to coordinate the quarterly
schedule for Good Shepherd members who volunteer to serve at the Dorothy Day
House. For more information, or to volunteer, contact Mike in the church office

Hospitality Network is May 6-13. A sign up sheet is in the narthex and the
schedule is online at goodshepherdchurch.net/ihnsched.html. Currently two
families are in the program - a mom and dad with a 4-yr-old and a 2-yr-old,
plus the family of Nyebol, Moses, and Emily who were here in March.
May 5 & 6 is the
big weekend when we distribute Time and Talent forms at all worship
services. This is an important way for
our congregation to get connected with our many ministries. Please take note that all forms filled out
and returned by May 5-6 will be entered into a drawing for some fabulous
prizes. If you miss the prize deadline,
please return your form at worship on May 12-13.

Spring is here, and
the grounds at GSC are ready for the next phase. Please enjoy the beauty
of the front courtyard, with the blooming of the magnolias, and look for the
spring perennials to appear soon.
Late Fall / Early Spring: Near the amphitheater you can see trees
again! In the fall we removed buck-thorn, grape vines, and unruly
branches; assembled four debris piles, and early this spring, made use of the
fire pit!
Next Phase: Our focus will be placed on the amphitheater, and the back
entrance to the church. We appreciate all of the help spreading and raking the
mulch on GSC Spring Clean-up Day. A special thank you to Weldon Hanson
for making 'many' trips in the delivery of the mulch. We will continue to
enhance these two areas with new plantings.
As always, your
donations are welcome, and can be noted on your offering envelope, by
writing: "landscaping"!
