Spring Clean-Up Day – April 14

The annual GSLC Spring Outdoor Clean-up Day is Saturday, April 14 from 9:00 am to 12 pm.  Cleanup projects include raking, trimming, cleaning around scrubs and landscape, spreading bark mulch around the church perimeter and trees, window cleaning, picking up  trash from church grounds, and clean-up of the outdoor worship area.   Please come and help freshen up the Good Shepherd building and grounds.   Come for any or all of this time period.  All help is greatly appreciated.  This is also a great opportunity to earn service hours for the confirmation students.

7th & 8th Grade Year-End Retreat

Get your registrations forms into the office.  Our retreat takes place at St. Croix state park just outside of Hinkley, MN from April 27-29.  It will be a weekend full of campfires, hikes, games, time for relaxing with friends, and hands-on learning experiences as we take confirmation out of the class room an into the great outdoors.  Form and payment are due in the office by Wednesday, April 11th at the latest.

30 Hour Famine

A Lock-In with purpose!!!  We spend a whole day together in typical lock-in fashion except… not eating!  We experience hunger first hand, learn about hunger in the world, and the money we raise goes to help people who deal with the reality of hunger on a daily basis.  We finish our time together with a break-feast, a celebration meal of grand proportions.  Here’s how it works…

1)      Sign-up with Mark to do the Famine.  Return the form before Wed, April 18th.

2)      Tell people (family, friends, neighbors, etc) about what you’re doing and ask them to pledge money to fight hunger.

3)      Collect the money people have pledged and put it in your envelope.

4)      Bring your envelope to the lock-in (April 20-21) and watch that money go to work for the hungry.

5)      Earn prizes for the money you raise.

6)      Earn 5 service hours for doing the Famine.

Global Days for Darfur: Time is Running Out

Lutheran World Relief invites you to join individuals across the country and around the world in the upcoming Global Days for Darfur, from April 23 to April 30. Together we can call attention to the escalating violence and the continued failure of the international community to adequately respond to this crisis.

Through rallies, marches and vigils, we will highlight the theme that "time is running out" for the 4 million children, women and men who have been left completely reliant on international aid for survival.

Time has already run out for the 400,000 who have died. It threatens to for the 2.5 million who have been displaced from their homes by horrific violence.

Please support your fellow activists in speaking out for the people of Darfur by joining an event in your area. If there are currently no activities planned in your community, we hope you will consider starting your own event during this important week.
