A hymn sing will begin at 8:05 & 10:35am this Sunday, Feb. 4.  Come and choose a favorite hymn to sing from our new ELW hymnals.  Join Cynthia in the Sanctuary at 9:45am for a closer look at our new book of worship.

Annual Meeting – February 11th

Mark your calendars and join us for GSC's Annual Meeting on Sunday, February 11th.  We will begin with a potluck immediately following the second service, and will follow the potluck with the business of the Annual Meeting.  Hope to see everyone there!

Congregational Conversations are Coming!

Last week every member household of Good Shepherd Church received a letter regarding a Congregational Conversation.  Beginning Ash Wednesday and continuing throughout the Lenten season, we will meet together as a congregation to begin the process of shaping the future of the ministry and faith community at GSC.  We look to every member of this congregation to be involved.

We would like the response cards that were included in the mailing to be returned to the church by Friday, Feb. 2.  For any hand-delivered response cards to the office, we will happily reuse postage stamps.  Beginning the week of Feb. 5, Good Shepherd callers will begin to contact those members who have not responded.

Helping Hands

Helping hands, our senior group, will be meeting here at Good Shepherd Church on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 1:30pm.  Come to socialize and have dessert and coffee.

Scout Sunday at Good Shepherd

February 4 is Scout Sunday. The Cub Scouts will assist with the 8:15 service. If you are a Cub Scout that attends Good Shepherd, you are welcome to participate. Please arrive at the Church by 8:00AM. We will serve as greeters and ushers. Contact Kent Bruinsma at 282-0317 for more information.

Scrip = Easy Fundraising

Want to be either the brains or the brawn of our new Scrip fundraising?  Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”.  In recent years many non-profits have stopped selling candy, magazines, and frozen pizza and have begun selling scrip.  So, if you were going to purchase $100 worth of groceries from HyVee in any given week instead of paying $100 to the cashier you would buy a $100 scrip card (like a debit card) at church.  You still pay the same amount but the church would make a fair percentage (varies with each store).  Talk with Mark if you’d like to help get this program off the ground.  The youth will do the grunt work of selling scrip but we’ll need adult help in educating the congregation, ordering scrip, and keeping track of inventory.

Youth Group

A group for anyone in 9-12th grade that wants to be more active with their faith.  Learn, discuss, and get revived for your daily walk through life.  We meet weekly from 7pm – 8:30pm on Wednesdays.  All are welcome.  If you are an adult who would like to help co-lead this group with Mark please give him a ring :)

Spring Break Mission Trip

There is still room available for Adults and youth wanting to go on our Spring Break mission trip to Oceans Springs, Mississippi to help rebuild the area affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  Talk to Mark presently as we need to send in our final registration soon.  Info at www.gscyouth.com/springbreaktrip.html

Theological Opportunity

Do you like thinking and talking about God?  Talk with Mark about putting your name in for Augsburg College’s Summer Theological Institute.  They are only taking a few students but it is an all-expense paid week of room, board, experience, and theological education by some fine professors.  For youth completing grades 10-12.

Middle School Ski Trip

There are still some spots remaining for our Middle School ski trip to Spirit Mountain in Duluth, MN.  You can reserve you spot by getting your $75 deposit in to the GSC office. More information at: www.gscyouth.com/jrhighskitrip.html

Reminder to Teachers

All teachers are invited to meeting with Cynthia on Monday, February 5 at 7:00pm.

Third Grade Bibles

Ellie Berg, one of our 3rd graders, composed the following poem after receiving her Bible last Sunday.  Thank you Ellie!

I will love this Bible till life will end,

I will treat it like a special friend

For God I know and God I love,

has given me this book with love!

Care Group Prayers

As a way to remember God’s unfailing gifts of love and healing, our regular worship on February 10 & 11 will provide an opportunity for healing prayers, either silently or supported by others.  Please come and be a part of this special opportunity.

Thank You from IHN

Dear Friends:

I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know just how important you are to our mission of helping homeless families with children in the Olmsted County area.  Without your ongoing support, caring, love, and financial assistance, we could not do the work that we do.

In the last two years we have been developing new programs to help the families not only find housing for their immediate crisis, but also we are working with them ongoing to help them remain stable.  In doing this we can help the children remain stable, in their same schools, and succeed to graduation and beyond.  If we can do this and break the cycle of homelessness, the children and their children will no longer look at homelessness as a way of life.  You are all instrumental in helping us to help them achieve this goal.

As the new year of 2007 is just beginning, I wanted to make sure that all of you know how important your part in this mission is and that we are blessed to be in partnership together to help God’s children in need.

Thank you again and may God bless all of you and our ministry together.

Peace,

Joanne L. Markee, Executive Director
