Wow!
Where do I begin with my deepest thanks and gratitude for the GSC Giving Tree
gifts. The poor, working families I know of were truly grateful!
From the ordinary gifts such as work shoes and laundry detergent; to the fun
and fanciful, like the trains and learning toys-all were received with great
appreciation.
Thank
you all for your compassion to reach out! Those in need were given of a
sign of hope and care. To be truly honest, the Giving Tree was one of the
most meaningful parts of my Christmas.
In God's love, Paula Freitag

Scrip
= Easy Fundraising
Want
to be either the brains or the brawn of our new Scrip fundraising? Scrip is a term that means “substitute
money”. In recent years many non-profits
have stopped selling candy, magazines, and frozen pizza and have begun selling
scrip. So, if you were going to purchase
$100 worth of groceries from HyVee in any given week instead of paying $100 to
the cashier you would buy a $100 scrip card (like a debit card) at church. You still pay the same amount but the church
would make a fair percentage (varies with each store). Talk with Mark if you’d like to help get this
program off the ground. The youth will
do the grunt work of selling scrip but we’ll need adult help in educating the
congregation, ordering scrip, and keeping track of inventory.

On Sunday, January 28, the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW)
books will replace the LBW and WOV books that are currently in our Sanctuary
chairs. Lutheran Book of Worship (LBW)
has been the primary worship book for many Lutheran congregations since
1977. The With One Voice (WOV)
supplement has been used since 1995. The
new ELW books will combine many of our favorite hymns and songs from both of
these previous books, as well as add fresh texts and tunes. Both services on Jan. 28 will begin with a
litany dedicating these books. Plan to
come to worship early on Sunday, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 for an opportunity
to sing some of your favorite hymns from the new “red” book!
