Good Shepherd Winter Retreat

After all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, prepare for some relaxation.  Plan to join us for the annual GSC winter retreat at Good Earth Village.  We will head down Friday, January 26th for some fun, fellowship, fun, food and did I mention FUN?  This is a very enjoyable weekend for the entire family.  Sign-up forms are in the narthex, and should be completed and turned into the church office by January 18.

Dearest Friends in Christ

Wow!  Where do I begin with my deepest thanks and gratitude for the GSC Giving Tree gifts.  The poor, working families I know of were truly grateful!  From the ordinary gifts such as work shoes and laundry detergent; to the fun and fanciful, like the trains and learning toys-all were received with great appreciation.

Thank you all for your compassion to reach out!  Those in need were given of a sign of hope and care.  To be truly honest, the Giving Tree was one of the most meaningful parts of my Christmas.

In God's love, Paula Freitag

Scrip = Easy Fundraising

Want to be either the brains or the brawn of our new Scrip fundraising?  Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”.  In recent years many non-profits have stopped selling candy, magazines, and frozen pizza and have begun selling scrip.  So, if you were going to purchase $100 worth of groceries from HyVee in any given week instead of paying $100 to the cashier you would buy a $100 scrip card (like a debit card) at church.  You still pay the same amount but the church would make a fair percentage (varies with each store).  Talk with Mark if you’d like to help get this program off the ground.  The youth will do the grunt work of selling scrip but we’ll need adult help in educating the congregation, ordering scrip, and keeping track of inventory.

High School Youth Group

A group for anyone in 9-12th grade that wants to be more active with their faith.  Learn, discuss, and get revived for your daily walk through life.  We meet weekly from 7pm – 8:30pm on Wednesdays.  All are welcome.  If you are an adult who would like to help co-lead this group with Mark please give him a ring :)

SEMN ELCA Synod L.Y.O Trip to Tanzania

June 4 – 16, 2007.  This Synod-wide mission trip is open to High School youth.  Applications and info will soon be added to the synod website www.semnsynod.org.  If you have any questions, please contact Lane Zaffke at Cross of Christ in Houston or talk with Mark.  More information forthcoming!

Middle School Ski Trip

After deposit Sunday there are still a few spots remaining for our Middle School ski trip to Spirit Mountain in Duluth, MN.  You can reserve you spot by getting your $75 deposit in to the GSC office.  The trip, a great time with friends, good skiing, and a chance to get away and refocus, is open to students currently in grades 6-8.  All levels of snow traveling experts are welcome.  Download the information sheet at: www.gscyouth.com/jrhighskitrip.html

Thank You!

Thank you for your generous response to the Giving Tree at Christmas! A book of Thank You notes from Circle Center recipients is on the table in the narthex.

Evangelical Lutheran Worship

On Sunday, January 28, the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW) books will replace the LBW and WOV books that are currently in our Sanctuary chairs.  Lutheran Book of Worship (LBW) has been the primary worship book for many Lutheran congregations since 1977.  The With One Voice (WOV) supplement has been used since 1995.  The new ELW books will combine many of our favorite hymns and songs from both of these previous books, as well as add fresh texts and tunes.  Both services on Jan. 28 will begin with a litany dedicating these books.  Plan to come to worship early on Sunday, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 for an opportunity to sing some of your favorite hymns from the new “red” book!

ELW Sunday Forum

On Sunday, February 4 at 9:45am, there will be a forum in the Sanctuary to take a closer look at some of the numerous resources available in ELW.  You will discover that it’s much more than 893 hymns and 10 liturgies!  Come and learn the history behind some of our hymnbooks and what has led us to this new worship book.
