Tuesday Prayer Lunch – Coming next week

Christians pray as they seek to be in touch and in communication with God.  It isn’t about having the right words or language; rather, it is about being in conversation with God.  How have your conversations been going?  Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to come to a prayer lunch group that will be meeting from 12:00 -1:00 on Tuesday’s beginning January 16.  Simply bring your own lunch and be ready to eat!  Following lunch there will be time for prayer as we remember issues in our world, city, congregation and families.  As the New Year begins, let’s commit ourselves to connecting to God through prayer.  We’ll see you there.

Good Shepherd Winter Retreat

After all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, prepare for some relaxation.  Plan to join us for the annual GSC winter retreat at Good Earth Village.  We will head down Friday, January 26th for some fun, fellowship, fun, food and did I mention FUN?  This is a very enjoyable weekend for the entire family.  Sign-up forms are in the narthex, and should be completed and turned into the church office by January 18.

Items Needed

The church is in need of some floor or table lamps and TV trays for use in the youth room and also for coffee houses.  If you happen to have some lying around the house, would you kindly donate them?  If you have any questions, please call Pastor Dave or Janis Evers - 281-9613.

Scrip = Easy Fundraising

Want to be either the brains or the brawn of our new Scrip fundraising?  Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”.  In recent years many non-profits have stopped selling candy, magazines, and frozen pizza and have begun selling scrip.  So, if you were going to purchase $100 worth of groceries from HyVee in any given week instead of paying $100 to the cashier you would buy a $100 scrip card (like a debit card) at church.  You still pay the same amount but the church would make a fair percentage (varies with each store).  Talk with Mark if you’d like to help get this program off the ground.  The youth will do the grunt work of selling scrip but we’ll need adult help in educating the congregation, ordering scrip, and keeping track of inventory.

7th & 8th Grade Retreat

Don’t miss out on the fun.  If you’re coming on the retreat you need to have your money and health form in by Wednesday, January 10th at the latest.  We leave for GEV at 5:30pm on Friday, January 12 and will return to GSC at 4:30pm on Saturday, January 13.  Cost of the retreat is $20.  Drivers needed.

Help Needed

Your help is needed in two very important areas at GSC.  First, we need a team of enthusiastic adults who enjoy youth to lead our Sr. High Sunday School at 9:30 each week.  The GSC staff will work with you to determine curriculum needs and ideas.  Please give this prayerful consideration as we begin a new year!

Second, the Senior Choir is still in need of an accompanist to assist in playing for rehearsals and for services when the choir is singing.  A stipend is available.

Please give Cynthia McLaren a call at the church if you are interested in either of these opportunities.  Thanks!

REMEMBER

It's never too late in the year to join one of our musical groups!  Our chime/choir schedules resume this week and we would love to have others join us!
