Adult Forum – December 17

Join Pastor Jack and Ruth Friedli at 9:30am on Sunday, December 17 in the old library for an adult forum titled “The Challenge of Rebuilding After Disaster.”  Pastor Jack and Ruth will share experiences from their recent mission trip to Slidell, Louisiana.

Rainbow Preschool

Our very own Rainbow preschool is in need of a Lead Teacher for the Tuesday/Thursday morning class.  Application deadline is December 19 and interviews will be held December 20 & 21.  Please send application and resume to J.T. Donations Wanted

Diversity Foundation, Inc., with the help of the Social Ministries Team of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is collecting another load of donations to be sent to the Santee and Crow Creek Indian Reservations.  Emphasis this time is for gently used or new Christmas gifts for the children and winter clothing.  All other household items in good working order will also be accepted.  Monetary donations to cover the fuel cost will also be accepted.  The collection site will be the former Domaille Buick building at 37th and North Broadway.  Donation drop-off times include: Dec. 13 (11am-1pm), Dec. 14 (9am-12pm, 4-7pm), Dec. 15 (5-8pm) and Dec. 16 (9am-4pm).  Call Bill at 269-2336 for pick-up or other information.

Habitat 2007 Calendar

This past October Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity dedicated their Youth United house; a house built with manpower and funds raised by youth in the local community.  Several youth and adults from our congregation helped with the building.  Now RAHH is fundraising for the second house (building to start in Spring).  You can help by purchases a 2007 Habitat calendar for $18.  Included in the calendar are 19 pages of coupons from over 20 local businesses!  Get yours on Sunday at the youth rolls table.

Middle School Ski Trip

St. Louis Mission Trip Meeting

Thanks to those able to come to our informational meeting for the St. Louis Mission Trip on Sunday.  If you need info talk with Mark or download the info sheet from the youth webpage.  Over the week of July 22 - 27 we will be doing service in the great city of St. Louis, MO with other folks from YouthWorks!  This trip is for students currently in grades 10-12.  Deposits will be due on January 21st, 2007.  www.gscyouth.com/stlouis.html

High School  Day

Not buying into the Playstation 3 craze?  Gather with us on Sunday, December 21st to celebrate the joys and wonders of the x-box.  We play from 12pm – 3pm.  Do you have an x-box or x-box 360 that you’d like to bring?  Talk with Mark.  With the exception Halo II, please only bring games rated Teen.

7th & 8th Grade Retreat

Come spend part of your weekend with friends at Good Earth Village.  There promises to be great sledding, games, discussions, movies, star gazing, and all manner of winter camp fun.  Things happen on January 12-13 (Friday to Saturday).  Cost of the retreat is $20.  This retreat is optional.  Look for more information in the mail sometime this week.

This newly forming small group focuses on caring activities in the church and community such as phone calls, cards, support services such as meals, household repairs, etc..  Meeting times TBD.

Faith in Motion (Contact Tim Fynskov 288-3607)
This group meets to encourage physical activity.   May - October we meet at Hy Vee South cafeteria for walking and bicycling.   November - March we meet at the church to discuss, plan, and/or demonstrate other activities that encourage a healthier lifestyle, conditioning, strength building, flexibility, etc. Meets weekly at GSC, Saturday’s at
8:00am.

Men’s Coffee Break (Contact Dave Herder 289-5723)

Guys – need a coffee break?  Come join this group for some caffeine and discussion.  Meets weekly at Panera South.

Sisters in Faith (Contact Beth Krolak 288-2190)

A Bible Study Group for Women broken up into 6 – 8 week sessions. The group focuses on learning, laughing, sharing, and growing in faith.  Meets weekly at GSC.

Young Adults Small Group (Contact Pastor Dave or Mark Hannan at 289-1748).This group is designed for folks in their 20s and 30s.  Activities include watching short films, having discussions, making faith and life connections, eating food and hanging out.  Meeting times and dates TBA.

Lutheran Woman Today Bible Study (Contact Mary Olson 529-1314) This group will meet at Loretta Berglund's on Monday, December 18.  The meeting time has been changed to 2:00pm during the winter months.

Stay and Play (Contact Tammera Bird 282-5533) In times of bad weather, the Stay and Play group follows the Rochester School district decision.  If school is canceled or delayed, Stay and Play will not meet.  Please be sure to use the North doors when entering the church.

We will share in a service of Lessons and Carols as we await the coming of the Christ child.  We will hear the story through scripture and music including youth singers, Senior Choir and Chimes.

A Musical Celebration

We continue to celebrate the birth of Jesus with a service of special music provided by the Senior choir and chimes. This is the only worship service this morning and there will be no Sunday School today.

*3 and 4 year olds should meet in their classroom at 9:15.  The brief program will be in the Fellowship hall at 9:30, followed by treats and activities for pre-schoolers and their guests.  There will NOT be Sunday School for pre-school on Dec. 17.

 

**Any youth musicians interested in playing an instrumental prelude for this program are encouraged to call Cynthia (289-1748) by Dec. 15.  Please consider this opportunity to share your gifts!
