WILD WEDNESDAYS

Mark your calendars now to attend the Wild Wednesday activities on July 19 at 6:00pm here at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  Our new lead Pastor Dave Berg will be in attendance on July 19.  We will have the grills fired up cooking lots of hot dogs and burgers with all the fixins’.  We supply the meat; you bring a potluck side dish.  Pastor Dave will be there anxious to get to know all of you.  On July 26, GSLC will host a “Carnival Night.”  We will have a potluck supper and the kids can enjoy lots of carnival games hosted by the GSLC youth.  Kids will be busy collecting lots of prizes while you chat with Pastor Dave and other GSLC folks.

Welcome Pastor Berg!

Following the 9:30am worship service on Sunday, July 23, there will be a fellowship time of cake and coffee in the Fellowship Hall to welcome Good Shepherd’s new lead pastor Dave Berg.

Wedding Coordinators

We are looking for multiple people who would be interested in serving as wedding coordinators.  The purpose of this position is to instill a sense of confidence and calm for the wedding couple.

A coordinator meets with the couple before the event and is present at the rehearsal and the wedding ceremony.  If you would like to ask specific questions of one of our current coordinators, call Meg McCamish 280-4339.  If you would like to serve as a coordinator, call Vicky Mulvihill (281-3052.)

From Cynthia McLaren

For five days in the past two weeks, I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend excellent conferences on worship and music.  Last week, regional members of the American Lutheran Church Musicians meet at Luther College, centering on a theme of “Youth in Worship.”  This week, St. Olaf College hosts its annual conference on theology and music.  I’m very thankful that our congregation provides funds for continuing education for the staff.  Thanks!

Cynthia McLaren
Director of Education and Music

Race/Walk for the Cure!

It's time to start thinking about participating in the 2006 MMCF 5K Race/Walk for the Cure!  You can register on-line this year.  Log on to
www.mmcf.org/2006_walk-run.htm
and click on "ONLINE REGISTRATION".  Register now and save $5.

It's not too early to start seeking donations from friends, family, and co-workers.  This year, a generous portion of the proceeds will be donated to Mayo Clinic for blood cancer research.  Our goal is $20,000.  That's twice what we raised last year.  I know with your help we can achieve and even surpass that goal!

If you don't want to participate in the event (or can't due to scheduling difficulties), but would like to seek donations from friends, family, and co-workers, we would be very happy to accept your donations.  You can log on to www.mmcf.org/2006_walk-run.htm and either click on "DONATE ONLINE" to donate yourself, or print a copy of the registration form to be able to solicit donations.

The more money we raise, the more we can help people in this community living with myeloma, lymphoma, leukemia, and other blood diseases.  Without you this event can't be successful.   Thank you, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

Pastor Dave Berg

We are here!  It seems like it has been a long time in the making (and it has), but Robyn, Miya, Annika and I have made the move to Rochester and are very excited to be a part of the faith family here at Good Shepherd.  I want to thank all the people who have offered support, prayers, meals, and showed up on moving day to move all my dumb bells – and other things – off the truck!

The past several months have been a time of great transition for my family as well as the faith family of Good Shepherd.  The transition will continue as we get to know each other and look ahead to a future of great possibility and promise.  As we do so, I would like to lift up a passage from Ephesians chapter 2, this week’s second lesson:

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.”

In Christ who is the cornerstone of our life together we are not strangers but family members.  With Christ as our foundation we will weather transition and any change that comes our way and continue to build a wonderful ministry.  With the Spirit’s help we will reach out in new and previously unimaginable directions.  Thanks be to God.

In the meantime, I look forward to conversations on Sunday mornings, at barbecues on Wednesday nights, over coffee throughout the week and informally as we move ahead.  God has amazing things in store for our faith family and I am excited that we will discover these things together.

God’s Peace

Pastor Dave
